3 QUICK WAYS TO BOUNCE BACK FROM A BAD MOOD

You had an amazing streak of good days, good moods, and life is looking up! “Maybe I can really do this positive thinking stuff” you tell yourself.

Then BAM something happens to throw it all off. Damn.

  • You had a bad interaction with someone
  • You started stressing about money
  • Thoughts from the past crept in
  • You got sick, or
  • Life just seemed extra difficult one day.

It doesn’t matter how it happened. It just happened and your mood started to slowly dip until you were in a serious funk.

And to top it off, being in a funk made you sad and feel bad about yourself, so you went even deeper into that funk. Yeah that sucks. I’ve been there.

First of all, take a deep breath. YOU ARE HUMAN.

I know we want to be happy all of the time, but our brains think thousands and thousands of thoughts every day and it’s frankly impossible to control or redirect them all.

The goal really is to have positive thinking be dominant, not necessarily constant and that’s just going to take practice like anything else.

Let’s face it, even if you’ve done a ton of self-reflection and growth in trying to release the past or your fears and doubts, you are bound to get triggered now and again.

But here’s the deal, negative thoughts and moods can actually be a good thing. Say what?

When you think about it, it’s a natural way for your mind to let you know that you are not in alignment with what you want. Something is off.

It provides you with an amazing opportunity to ask yourself questions to learn more about what’s going on inside of you that might be holding you back.

The trick is: approach it all with curiosity instead of frustration.

It’s so easy for us to become obsessed with being positive all the time, because we hear about all of the wonderful ways it can impact our lives, and all of that is absolutely true!

But we also don’t want to become stressed and down on ourselves for having a bad day. That will only bring more negative momentum and make it difficult to get back to a higher positive state of being.

So let yourself have a bad day. Approach it with more lightness and curiosity and take it as a learning opportunity to go a little deeper within yourself to understand why you were triggered.

If you find yourself struggling to bounce back from a bad mood or day, here are a few ways to bring you back around to a high vibe state:

3 Quick Ways to Bounce Back From a Bad Mood

1 FEED YOUR BRAIN EARLY

I have a gratitude practice where as soon as I realize I’m awake I start thinking about things I’m grateful for. Big or small things, doesn’t matter.

You see, negative thoughts naturally diminish when we sleep. So the morning is your most opportune time to build positive momentum for the day by feeding it with things that feel good to you.

2 CRANK IT

I am always amazed at how music can soothe and lift my spirits. I love love love turning the volume way up on an inspiring song and singing my heart out. I may look ridiculous, but it makes me feel happy and alive.

And if you are ever feeling negativity building inside of you during your day, don’t just try to push through it. Stop what you are doing, turn on a song, and dance! It not only lifts your spirits, but it also helps you remember not take everything so seriously.

3 FIND THE ANSWERS WITHIN

When you’ve been triggered into a low mood and are having difficulty getting out of it, it’s time to connect with your inner self, where all of the answers truly lie.

The goal is to have more and more control of your own happiness without outside people and experiences throwing you off again and again.

The easiest way to uncover the deeper reason for your mood is to simply ask and reflect. Whether you write it out or sit in silence, it’s amazing how much can be revealed if you just ask yourselves why you were so triggered, what is at the root of your feelings, and what beliefs are attached to the stories in your head.

The beauty of going through a self reflecting exercise like this is that you might actually learn something about yourself AND a huge weight is automatically lifted from your mind.

YOU are in control of your happiness and the sooner you own that and find ways to release what no longer serves you and to shift to better feeling thoughts, the sooner the life you so want and deserve will begin to reveal itself.

So much love,

Annmarie
